Tips, Notes and special remarks | It is better to carry water as much as possible when the weather is too hot and sunny.Always keep first aid pack nearby as it is always a must when hiking with new comers. |

When travelling by Colombo-Kandy road someone may wonder what is the rock that imitates Sigiriya when passing the Kadugannawa junction.It is the bible rock,also known as Batalegala which is 798 m in height.Its true location is Hathgampola, a rural village in Aranayake in kegalle district .With the intention of exploring this giant rock the university exploreres’ club consisted of 81 hikers started the journey on 22nd of March 2015 at about 8.00 a.m. from the university premises.
Travelling up to Aranayake where the entry point to the hike is located was done by bus .Then we had to walk along the road which crosses Narangammana village. After passing many paddy fields and rubber plantations we could reach the forest area.

The forest area is enveloped with thick vegetation. Even though there is not vast diversity in environment, beautiful fauna and flora, many butterfly species, serpents could be observed on the way to the top.

Finally we could reach the summit of the rock where anyone can enjoy the true beauty of nature .The rock was surrounded by range of mountains including hanthana, and many of the unknown. However we could able to reach the top by 2.00 p.m. and there everyone had some refreshments The other end of the plane there is a temple called Aloka wiharaya which is belong to Bauddhaloka wihara, Bathalegala. Therefore nobody forgot to visit the temple before descending the rock.

The journey started back after having some rest and we could able to reach our destination by 5.30 p.m. Everyone dispersed happily with remarkable hiking experiences.
